Five New Orleans Restauratns Donate to Local Non-Profit to Help Rebuild Mid-City

NEW ORLEANS, LA: October 28, 2008

Local restaurants are taking a supportive role in rebuilding the city by donating gift certificates, redeemable coupons and goods to the Phoenix of New Orleans (PNOLA), a non-profit neighborhood recovery organization. These generous contributions will be raffled off at the Broad Street Bazzar, a monthly market hosted by PNOLA.

Boswell's Jamaican Restaurant, Fair Grinds Coffeehouse, Taqueria Guerrero Mexico, Venezia, and Wit’s Inn kindly donated a total of more than $200 in gifts.

“Donations like these help PNOLA raise money for housing projects during a time when so many have difficulty supporting us financially,” said Jennifer Fisher, PNOLA’s Donations Manager. “Asking one hundred to people give a dollar for a raffle ticket is significantly easier than asking one person to give one hundred dollars.”

Like many other non-profits, PNOLA is constantly seeking creative ways to fundraise.

“This community bazaar is more than just a market. It brings the neighborhood together and recycles the community’s finances by allowing local consumers to support local vendors. Those small businesses can then continue to grow and support the community,” explained Fisher.

Managers like Tiro Garcia of Taqueria Guerrero Mexico and Boswell Atkinson of Boswell's Jamaican Grill did not hesitate to help.

“Everyone I spoke with was very gracious and eager to donate to our cause,” said Kevin Dillon, PNOLA’s Community Organizer. “But we still need more people to get involved any way they can.”

Because of PNOLA’s 501(c)3 status, all donations are tax deductible. If you would like to donate goods or services, or to send financial support, please contact Jennifer Fisher at Jennifer@pnola.org or (504) 208-4856.
